Doctors in Gilgit-Baltistan get the salary package of their dreams!

Gilgit, June 4: The government of Gilgit-Baltistan has issued a notification giving the doctors of Gilgit-Baltistan the salary package of their dreams.
According to a notification received here, the doctors in Gilgit-Baltistan will get pays and perks at par with the package available for doctors working for the federal government. The perks and pays will be effective from January 2014, says the notification released by the Finance Ministry of Gilgit-Baltistan.
216 doctors and 22 nurses will, reportedly, benefit from the package.
Dr. Abdul Rehbar, President of the Pakistan Medical Association Gilgit-Baltistan and Dr. Farman, Secretary General, have hailed issuance of the notification and paid tributes to the government of Syed Mehdi Shah, Haji Gulbar Khan, Chief Secretary, and Secretary Health and others who supported the doctors’ demands.
The doctors had earlier this year started a massive protest drive throughout Gilgit-Baltistan to press the government into acceptance of their demands for pay raise.
Whether or not the pay raise leads to a more efficient public health system in Gilgit-Baltistan, only time can tell. Peole, however, are hoping that the doctors will now leave no stone unturned to serve the region’s impoverished people.
It is pertinent to note that doctors from the region were refusing to work in their ancestral area due to lack of financial incentives.
