Two suspects involved in Kohistan carnage arrested from Baseen, Gilgit

The Gilgit Police on Thursday arrested two individuals, who were allegedly involved in the targeted sectarian killings in Harban area of Kohistan.

The two suspected terrorists, Ghulam Dastagir and Tariq, were arrested from Napura area of Baseen, Gilgit city. The suspected terrorists reportedly resisted the police team’s operation, and an official sustained injuries. One of the suspected terrorists tried to flee, but was caught on the run.

In February 2012, a group of armed terrorists had stopped buses, identified Shia passengers through their National Identity Cards, and shot dead 14 people at point blank in one of the worst massacres in the region’s recent history.

Majority of the passengers shot dead belonged to different parts of Gilgit-Baltistan: 08 from Nagar, 03 from Astore, 01 from Gilgit, 01 from Skardu, among others.
