Former Chief Secretaries to get free VIP residence, protocol, driver, gunman, in Gilgit-Baltistan
GILGIT: A notification issued in July 2018 has directed all government departments in Giglit-Baltistan to extend “VIP” protocol to the former Chief Secretaries.
The letter, issued by Chief Secretary Babar Hayat Tarrar, has ordered the officials to offer the former Chief Secretaries “free access to VIP accommodation” at government guest houses and other facilities, while also offering pick and drop facilities with VIP protocol at Skardu and Gilgit airport.
The letter further instructs the officials to offer the former Chief Secretaries ‘driver’ for lifetime, and a gunman (guard), or orderly of their choices.
The Gilgit-Baltistan govt will also provide a car and driver to the former chief secretaries if they stay in GB House, Islamabad.
The Chief Secretary has mentioned in the letter that the order to extend such services to the former chief secretaries was issued by the Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan, in view of a decision taken by the Gilgit-Baltistan cabinet in 2013.
It is pertinent to note that Prime Minister Imran khan has ordered austerity measures and instructed against offering VIP protocols to current officials, and ministers, at airports.
