The “Malala School Bag” hits the market in Ghizer!
Our Correspondent
Gilgit, October 20: A school bag bearing the photograph of a smiling and saluting Malala Yusufzai, hanging outside a shop, should not come as a surprise to anyone.
This little brave girl has become an icon of education for girls and women and her repute is global. She first came to the limelight for after writing diaries for the BBC website in Urdu and then, unfortunately, for being shot by some Taliban fighters. She survived the bullet injury, albeit with a slightly disfigured face.
Ever since, she has addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations, met heads of states and she was one of the favorite nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize. The list of awards and honors being conferred on her is ever expanding.
It appears that some enterprising businessman, either out of inspiration or sensing the apparent profitability of the face and name of Malala, has crated a perfect product; at the heart of the cause Malala supports, i.e. education.
Generally, the markets in Pakistan are quite innovative in terms of opportune product development. One can easily find packaged edibles named after politicians, bearing their photographs, selling in huge numbers in the rural markets of the country.
However, it could not be ascertained if the “Malala School Bag” is making significant sales in the region.
