Hunza, December 8: Karakoram Area Development Organisation-KADO has published the online and print versions of Karakuram Knowledge Highway’s (KKH) 3rd edition, a press release said.

KKH is the first multidisciplinary, quarterly published, development and research journal from Gilgit – Baltistan aiming to generate and disseminate rigorous research manuscripts and scholarly works, on different aspects of the high Asia Mountains and its people, as an impetus towards a knowledge-based mountain society. It publishes research manuscripts, theoretical papers, review articles, lessons learnt in development interventions, success stories on social, economical, environmental, geographical, cultural, technological aspects of mountain communities in Gilgit-Baltistan and the surrounding mountain communities. The online version is available at www.kkh-journal.org/issue3.html  and www.kadohunza.org.

The Issue 3 presents assorted research works and case studies focusing primarily on various aspects of natural resources in mountainous regions. The first paper discusses the state of agrobiodiversity and the eroding situation of related indigenous knowledge in Gilgit-Baltistan. The following article presents recent scientific findings on thawing glacier activity in the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges and its impact on Pakistan’s agriculture. The subsequent piece provides a geographic comparison of pasture land use patterns in the Pamir sub-regions. This issue also includes a study on social change and development from the Ghulkin community’s perspective. A review paper regarding Nepal’s Everest region is also included. The work aims to develop an analytical framework for equitable mountain tourism based on the discourse of political ecology. The final write-up focuses on the evolution of formal education in Hunza Valley with an in-depth chronicle of its earliest teachers.

The journal is getting wide recognition beyond local and national borders, and many reputed professionals and researchers are now working voluntarily in the editorial board and independent reviewers.

  1. This is amazing. This journal holds a great treasure of knowledge. I had a cursory look at the work of Dr. Herman, Fazal Amin Beg and Karim Dad. I must say this is a huge wealth of knowledge and we must read all these articles. I will be waiting for the next episode of FAB’s interesting study about Ghulkin. It is a rich paper I must say. Thanks to KADO for sharing this with us and congratulations to G. Ali, Zulfiqar and team for this historic work. The future generation will always salute you for all these efforts.

    Best regards,
    Sultan
