“Complaints of poor boat service are not correct”: Wazir Baig

According to a statement published in Daily Baad-e-Shimal (click to open link), the speaker of GBLA, Wazir Baig, has said that a well thought conspiracy plan is being used to malign the present government. He has also, reportedly, said that the boat service between Gojal and Hunza is flawless and those complaining in this regard are misleading the people. He has reportedly made these statements while talking to a delegation of the people of Gojal.
Contradicting the claims of the speaker regarding flawless boat service, Pamir Times is again sharing photographic evidence about condition of the boats being used in the artificial lake.
We request the speaker to focus on improving the service rather than making statements about imaginary conspiracy theories. Such statements are aimed at diverting attention from the real issues.
In my opinion the following flaws exist in the boat service;
- Water not only spills into the boat, it also seeps through the bottom
- The boats are not suitable for children, patients, senior citizens and women
- No system is in place to rescue the boat passengers, in case of an accident
Therefore I urge the speaker to expedite work on supply of modern, comfortable, boats for the stranded people of Gojal valley.

why Wazir by himself is not taking a journey to Gojal in the boats when it was election time then he used to come with huge carnivals for the campaign.
if he is not capable for resolving the problums then he should resigne from the office and this is the right time for him.
other leaders of Hunza must come forward and together solve the problem and pressurize the government to take speedy actions.
Nice joke by our respected GBLA speaker. This is not the time to pass statements like the one did by Speaker GBLA. He is our representative and this is his prime responsibility to facilitate in providing better and reliable transportation service either boat service or heli service to the stranded population of upper Hunza. Political point scoring should be avoided in situations like this and people should be helped in real terms. i request private sector business men to jump in and start Boat service to facilitate mobility of people and goods.

Can anyone ask how much it did cost to the national ex-chequer??? off courese, similar to the fiber glass ones?? in hundreds of thousands?
We are just the ‘cannon fodder’ by the state, be it Kargill, Waziristan or vice versa. The main reason is that we lack awareness.
The so called ‘nascent government’ of GB has not even that much powers that of a district councillor of a Pakistani jurisdiction. But we are proud of the titles of CM, Speaker, D/speaker exetera exetera for our own individual interests.
If someone is sincere to this land, he shouldn’t contest in these fake elections at this cost but we know that this is a game played by the center (for the last 62 years) to honour ‘unemployed’ people who are just happy to have a monthly stipend alongwith a car and a flag hoisted on it, nothing else.
The youth of GB should notice evrything happenning around them in terms of geo-politics as well as socio-economic changes rather than sticking on ‘metaphysics and superstition’. Time is limited.
Aazur has rightly stated the actual situation on ground ,last evening Gen Farooq NDMA and speaker both talked to VOA radio about the current situation in Ayeen Abad abd Shishkat they were saying there is no such problem as we have started the boat service. Interestingly both were satisfied with these rusted boats, although Wazir himself has travelled by this boat to Ayeenabad.We request some generous donors to come forward and replace the rusty and risky boats with some new and safe one.

I think FOCUS should consider bringing in rubber motor boats which our institutions are using over decade on Punj River to cross material and human from Tajik side to afghan side. These boats are relaiable and having carrying capacity of 2 mt tons –
the current boats are dangrouse – seems to me they have collected from attock and send them over ….this seriouse and one should talk to FOCUS …

one thing i request every leader of Hunza must come forward and forget their belongings to any so called parties No PPP,no MQM, no PML. they have no interest in the sake of people and relief.
ALL leaders of Hunza must represent themselves and their belongings to only Hunza and come forward to help to solve the issues this is the right time for them to be honest and prove themselves.

I think Mr. Speaker as well as all the other elected members of the GBLA do not realise the stature of the positions they are holding. Instead of covering the back of administration and the army, he should order investigation on the supply of these fault boats and expedite efforts to provide better and safer facilities for the people.
Stating the obvious is simple common sense not conspiracy.

We know the government of PPP any where any time sacrifices people to protect its government so the worry for losing their power is first priority and concern for them.
The delay in any action to release the water is also due to GB elected rep of Hunza, because of the self interest of constructing dam on the blocked river.
The KKH, the Shishket-Gulmit Bridge connecting China and Pakistan, constructed by Chinese are damaging. The Govt of Pakistan, Military of Pakistan, FWO could not protect the KKH and the bridge. It’s a shame for Pakistan.
Traveling on the boat and claiming the good condition is again considering people stupid who complain their problem because of the water leakage.
Nobody is concern on the psychological trauma of the people of Gojal for about two months…………
We wish it was Mushraf’s government; he would have taken prompt action and visited the area himself.

Unfortunately whenever a person (even if he is good one) takes the “kursi” he is blind folded by realities by the chumchaz around him.
This is true for all rulers of PAK. Look at all the rulers who ruled us since 1947, when the are in POWER they are blinded by the men around them.
The people of Hunza are challenging Mr. Wazir Baig – the re-elected lelgislative representative of Hunza to do his first step in helping the emergence of Hunza people.
We don’t want your 3rd class boat that you are providing now. This is not the solution of our problem. Government is only providing the temporary solution not the best one. People know that you are sound sleeping in Gilgit while the people who voted for you are suffering while they are waiting the water to flush them because of your slow action. Is this the only we can get from you? You won the election because of the Upper Hunza votes…. Not in Central nor in Lower Hunza.
Two largest villages in our Tehsil are in great danger. Are you going to sit down only and saying that this is the best boat you can provide. We want you to utilize your authority to make sure to make canal where the water can flow properly without endangering the Hunzai.
I hope you will realize the difficulties of the thousand lives of the people in Upper Hunza otherwise this will be a history of disaster in Upper Hunza and our future generation will not forget it.

Great man wazir Baig Speaker GBLA wish ubest of luck to get safely to Gojal.You will go and come back by wining the heart of hundreds of people.But the thousands of people will remain there to see the calamity.Your visit is not enough to help them out of this catastroph.They innocent people of Gojal are waiting for your practical actions,otherwise the people of Gojal will be chanting,

Brothers, this is time to be positive and solve the problems.Believe me, we do not fully understand the scale of problem: the present problem due to Hinza River blockage due to landslide dam and God forbid, the serious problem in case of dam failure.
We people of Gojal are thankful to FOCUS for providing assistance and help to the people.Without help from FOCUS things would have been very difficult.
The Government should sit with experts from FOCUS and AKDN and plan out the long term re-habilitation plan of the households that have been affected.
International donor agencies should be approached for re-habilitation and recovery phase of this disaster.
Wazir Baig sb, you are one of us,we need help and we are sure you will bring this issue up at the highest level. We people of Gojal/Hunza are proud and hard working people.

this is a very good point. WE should think on it and get in action.
With a due respect Mr. Speaker! it is not the time to defend the poor governed adminimstration, The peoples of Gojal are playing for the lives. It is a very serious matter. Instead of holding the back of the administration, the administration should be more pragmatic and reliable. Looking everthing from the eye of politics and election is not a mature idea.
Open you eyes Wazir baig and watch the vedio on Pamir times, and accept the reality, this is clear picture of your performance…it is shame for you being a ledear of that area and giving such statements against Pamir times……
This is a lesson for our people and we should learn from here onward who to chose next time.

You are right, entering water into the boat is not a sufficient reason for you to believe that boats are not in good condition, you will be convinced of the bad condition when a boats will sink (God forbid) into the river with all people on boat.
the next month of March will be very crucial, it will not only sink the only one bridge that connects Shishkut and Gulmit but further more part of KKh will be submerged into the lake that will result in a long term damage to the highway and possibly severely impact on the economy of Gojal for this year. its the right time to prepare ourselves for the upcoming crucial time and try to get involve Donner agencies on international level and bring the issue on international media.
Central Hunza and lower Hunza can participate in a way of protest that could build pressure on government to take the matter seriously.
May God bring NOVROZ as a day of relief and happiness for the people of Gojal.
