Better management plan for Deosai National Park discussed in a workshop

Gilgit, June 30: A consultative workshop was held here in Gilgit to get inputs for development of a better management plan for the Deosai National Park. The workshop was attended by Imran Sikandar Baloch, Secretery Forest, Environment and Tourism Gilgit-Baltistan. Among others who attended the workshop were Aashiq Ahmed Khan Senior Scientist and Advisor of Environment Ministry, Ismail Zafar Conservator of Forests GB, Babar Khan Head WWF-P Gilgit-Baltistan, Ghulam Haider (DFO) Skardu, Zakir Hussain (WLMO, DNP) and Ghulam Mohammad (DFO Wildlife).
The participants shared their ideas about effective management of the national park which is home to some of the world’s rarest species, including Brown Bears.
This workshop was jointly organized by WWF, Directorate of Deosai National Park (DNP) and other partner organizations.
Experiences, problems and opportunities related to national park management came under discussion and solutions were suggested to effectively tackle the emerging threats and challenges to the park and its resources.
