[Breaking News] Gilgit – Baltistan governor, Dr. Shama Khalid, passed away in Islamabad
Islamabad, September 15: Doctor Shama Khalid, first governor of Gilgit – Baltistan and the second female governor of Pakistan’s history, has reportedly passed away in Islamabad . She was under treatment for cancer at a hospital in the capital city.
Dr. Shama belonged to Astore district of Gilgit – Baltistan and her family is settled in Lahore, Punjab. She had been sworn in as governor on March 22, 2010. Doctor Shama Khalid remained governor of Gilgit – Baltistan for less than six months.

Indeed she was a pride of Gilgit Baltistan being first ever female Governor from Pakistan. May Allah Almighty bless her soul and may her soul rest in eternal peace. (Ameen).

A very very sad and shocking news, to loose such a nice person. I knew her since 2006 and found her a very kind and loving person. May God give her rest in peace. Amen
It was shocking to hear on the national electronic media that the first lady governer of Gilgit-Baltistan, Dr. Shama Khalid passed awayin Islamabad on Wednesday 15th September 2010.
May Almighty Allah Bless her soul in eternal peace, Amien! Although her services to GB was a short one, but by and large it remained peaceful and people of the area welcomed her as a daughter of GB.
What is next? the FG Cabinet should be thinking seriously on different personalities of the region for this most important position.
I would like to present the following two names for the next Gverner:
1- Prof. Usman Ali (Because of his literary contributions to GB in particular and Pakistani language and culture in general).
2- Mr. Nazir Sabir Hunzai (Because of his knowledge of the area; being a hero climber, who has scaled most of the highest peaks of the world and for his linguistic know-how, such as, Urdu, English, Japanese, French, German, Brushaski, Wakhi and many more) He is a man of character, nickname and famous worldwide).
I hope, other citizens of the area will also express their views enabling the FG to decide about a person, whose past is neat and clean and is patriotic to GB and the country at large.
A sad new for people of GB. May her soul rest in eternal peace..
Nazir Sabir will be the best choice for governor of Gilgit-Baltistan.
