Governor of Gilgit – Baltistan laid to rest in Abbottabad

Abbottabad, September 16: Late governor of Gilgit – Baltistan, Dr. Shama Khalid, was laid to rest under complete state protocol at Habibullah Colony Graveyard in Abbottabad today. The burial ceremony was attended by political and social leaders,  high raking civil and military officials, admirers, family members and a large number of  students and professionals belonging to Gilgit – Baltistan.

A 17 Gun Barrel salute was presented also presented for the late governor by a contingent of the Pakistan Army. The governor passed away yesterday at a hospital in the capital city. She was 60 years old at the time of her death.

She had become the first governor of Gilgit – Baltistan around six months ago, on March 22, 2010.

“She was like an elder sister to me”, chief minister of Gilgit – Baltistan has said. He also said that the late governor’s vision for development of the region will be fulfilled.

Speaker of the GBLA, Wazir Baig, has also paid rich tributes to the late governor. Baig has said that the governor was full of wisdom and charisma.

Other national leaders, including the president, prime ministers, federal and provincial ministers and bureaucrats have also paid rich tributes to the governor.

As a daughter of Gilgit – Baltistan and the region’s first governor, Dr. Shama Khalid’s name will remain on the pages of history for the times to come.

The great loos for the region was considered the resent flood ,which destroyed every thing ,,,,,,,it took many lives ,,,i would like to send my condolence to all of their family ,,,,,,,,,the second great loss for the region is the death of Dr.Shama Khalid….may God peace on her soul….and my God bestow the region such a brave and intelligent leader.
