Heightened security measures in Gilgit city

Large scale operation can be conducted in Gilgit, warns Governor Baig

PT Report

Gilgit, January 19: In view of the recent unrest in Gilgit city, the law enforcing agencies have heightened the security measures by creating barricades within and outside the city’s jurisdiction. Police and GB Scout personnel could be seen snap checking vehicles on the city streets.

The interim governor, Wazir Baig, has warned that a large scale operation could be conducted in the city to bring back peace. He made this statement while addressing a crowd of protesters who had reached the Governor House’s gate with the dead body of Haji Nageen, a man shot dead by unknown assailants a couple of days ago.

A leader of the PML (N) was also injured by unidentified assailants during the past week.

The police chief has said that while local people always come up with complaints against the police and other law enforcing agencies, they are not cooperate with the government to help nabbing of the terrorists. He also hinted that the terrorists find safe sanctuaries within the city limits. He urged the peace loving people to help the police by sharing information about the terrorists.

In the meanwhile, PML (N) leadership has taken serious note of the attacks on its provincial leaders. It is pertinent to note that earlier last month another pML (N) leader had also sustained bullet injuries in what is believed to be an act of targeted attack.
