Lawari Tunnel road blocked for vehicular traffic

CHITRAL: The only land route connecting Chitral District of Khyber – Pakhtunkhawa to other parts of Pakistan has been blocked near Lawari Tunnel, due to heavy snowfall in Dir area.

PIA’s scheduled flights have also not taken place during the last four days, creating severe problems for commuters and transporters.

There are also reports that the main road of Garam Chashma remains blocked for the last two blocked for the past fourteen (14) days, stranding thousands of people on both sides of the valley.

An official of the National Highway Authority (NHA) Dir office told this scribe that snowfall has stopped and bulldozers are being deployed to remove the snow from the road to open Southern side of the Lawari Tunnel for vehicular traffic.

Social and political circle of the area have demanded from high ups of NHA for early opening of Lawari tunnel road for vehicular traffic.
