Federal Government delays release of funds for widening of KKH

Gilgit—Work on widening of Karakurram Highway (KKH) has been delayed due to non provision of funds from the federal government. According to Mr Cheng, the Project Manager of Chinese construction company engaged in widening of KKH, federal government has not released funds for the said project for the last 16 months.

He said that development work on KKH between Raikot Bridge and Khunjrab Pass, the border area of Pakistan and China has been stopped due to non availability of funds. Mr. Cheng said that federal government will be approached soon for release of the funds to continue work on the project. It’s worth mentioning that KKH (Silk Route) holds key importance for both Pakistan and China as most of the trade between the two countries was carried out through this route.—INP
