Ban on jobs lifted in GB, candidates encouraged to apply

Hunza—The Gilgit-Baltistan government had lifted ban on recruitment in different departments to reduce unemployment in the region, said Minister for Water & Power Wazir Shakeel.

Talking to APP on Tuesday he said the prime objective of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was to serve the masses and provide maximum employment opportunities. He said the GB government was in favor of providing job opportunities to the disable persons as well and in this regard two per cent quota had been allocated for the latter in the recent openings. The minister further said the jobs would be provided to masses of all the districts without any discrimination. Meanawhile earlier, the Gilgit-Baltistan government has approved 25 new thermal power projects in different districts which will boost the power generation capacity

thus reducing load-shedding in the region. This was stated by Gilgit-Baltistan Minister for Law Wazir Shakeel while talking to newsmen. He said masses of the region would soon hear a good news regarding Bunji tunnel as Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani would give approval for the prjoect in a day or two. He said GB had a capacity to generate 30,000 to 40,000 mega watt electricity. The Diamer Basha Dam after completion would generate power. The minister said the government was utilizing all available resources for the development of area and maximum relief would be provided to the masses.

“The government is looking for a donor for the project,” said Shakeel, adding that the government had collected Rs100 million from electricity bills in Skardu which will be spent for repairing power generators and other equipment. Meanwhile the government made payment of death compensation in respect of those two people killed by police firing at Hunza, official sources said.—APP
