Gilgit gets "Big City" status

PT Report

Islamabad, Sep 9: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday declared Gilgit as Big City. The decision will lead to increase in House Rent Allowance and Conveyance Allowance of government employees.

The high-sounding “announcement” by non other than the Prime Minister is being with scepticism by residents of Gilgit – Baltistan’s largest city, which is plagued with the menace of sectarian killings, crimes and dilapidation of absence of civic facilities.

The PM had announced on September 29, 2009, to upgrade Gilgit and Skardu’ s status to that of a “Big City”.

  1. I do not appreciate this announcement made by prime-minister to give another puppet status to Gilgit. This is a line of fooling game led by the Govt of Pakitan towards GB. Our Region is gripped by sectarian terrorism, personal hatred and deliberate suppression. We should denounce this act and demand for the basic rights. We are hanged on a burning ditch of attabad lake and yet there is no light of mercy.. Shame on Prime Minister and Shame on Govt of Pakistan!
