Gilgit braces for Ashura, cellular services will be shut down

Gilgit, November 23: There will be no traffic on the Karakoram Highway. Cellular networks in the Gilgit city will remain shut and there will be complete ban no bike riding.
These extraordinary steps have been taken by the GB government and administration to ensure safety of hundreds of processions, to be attended by tens of thousands of people across the region, on the 9th and 10th day of the month of Moharram.
Pakistan Army has been asked to remain alert, to respond to any toward situation.
Explosion: A house was attacked this evening with a hand grenade in the Police Lines area of Konodas locality of the Gilgit city. The blast was heard far and off the explosion site, but there was no report of any injuries or casualties. The police has said that the incident appears to be the result of personal enmity. Police have arrested 4 people on the basis of suspicion.
Hunza/Nagar/Astore/Baltistan: Comprehensive security measures have been taken in Astore, Hunza, Nagar and Baltistan region, where hundreds of mourning processions will be attended by thousands of people. The number of police officials deployed on security has been increased. Security on entry and exit points has been enhanced and vehicles are being snap-checked randomly. People are required to show their CNIC while entering these districts.
