Gilgit, September 26: The Chinese government has decided to close the Sino-Pak border for ten days as part of extra ordinary security measures ahead of the starting of independence day celebrations.
According to a notification, the border will be closed from the 28th of September till 7th of October. Trade and traffic between the two countries will remain closed during this period.
It is pertinent to note that the Chinese government has been expressing concerns about the threat of terrorist infiltration through the Khunjerav (misspelled officially as Khujerab) border.
Such measures are routinely taken to guard the country against elements who may want to be involved in subversive activities in the Xinjiang autonomous region, where sections of the Uighur communities have been involved in a struggle against the government.
