Commuters in Gojal Valley have been left at the mercy of freezing glacial water
Gojal, May 8: The people of Gojal Valley are forced to travel through the freezing water flowing from a nearby glacier because the whatever remained of the Karakuram Highway has been washed away by a recent Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF).
Women, children and senior citizens are forced to cross the freezing water because no alternative route is available. Very aged people and patients are being carried on their backs by the younger ones.
It is pertinent to note that hundreds of people from the upper reaches of Gojal Valley are forced to travel to the Tehsil headquarters for health and other issues.
while the people’s sufferings are compounding, the district administration has yet to come up with a solution for the issues being faced by the locals.
