Hunza By-Election postponed for three weeks, polling to be held after deciding cases against Baba Jan
Skardu: The Hunza By-Election has been postponed by the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan. The polling will be held after three weeks.
According to details, Justice Dr. Rana Shamim of the Supreme Appellate Court, heading a division bench, has ordered to postpone the By-election in GBLA-6 Hunza for three weeks. The decision has reportedly been made to first complete the hearing of two pending criminal cases against Baba Jan, the imprisoned leader and candidate of Awami Workers Party. The court will start hearing of the cases from tomorrow.
Nasir, Baba Jan’s brother confirmed the news while talking to Pamir Times from Skardu, where the cases have been transferred for hearing.
It is pertinent to note that after rejection of Baba Jan’s nomination papers by a returning office, the AWP had filed an appeal in the GB Supreme Appellate Court. The Court had allowed Baba Jan to contest election. An appeal had filed against the court’s decision, hearing of which will start from tomorrow.
