Work on Pakistan-China Fiber Optic Cable Project underway
Fiber optic connection between Pakistan and China may soon become a reality!
The $44 million, 802km long, fiber optic cable, that will connecting the two neighboring countries, is being laid between Pakistan and China and it will become another high-speed international connection to cater to the rapidly growing Internet traffic needs of Pakistan. The groundbreaking ceremony of the project had been performed by PM Nawaz Sharif in May this year in Gilgit. The cable connection is likely to be completely functional in two years.
The cable is being laid between Rawalpindi and Xinjiang autonomous region of China, passing through the Hazara Division of KPK province and four districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, namely Diamer, Gilgit, Nagar and Hunza.
Workers are currently busy digging the land to lay the cable in different parts of these regions, including the Naran-Kaghan Valleys, Balakot, Khunjerav and other areas. The photographs below were taken in the Khunjerav National Park area.
