CHITRAL: A potable drinking water scheme completed by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) was inaugurated in Seenlasht locality of Chitral by the district’s additional Deputy Commissioner, Minhasuddin.
Engineer Altaf, representing AKAH told this scribe that a 29-feet deep well was dug on the bank of Chitral river to extract filtered water. The water will be supplied to over 500 households with the help of a 180-HP electric motor.
Regional Program Manager AKAH Muhammad Karam said that the agency has completed 22 water supply schemes in remote areas, like Broghul, Yarkhun lasht and adjacent areas of upper Chitral. He said that AKAH’s water-supply project are benefiting more than 87,000 people in the district. He said that this project was completed with financial support from the European Union.
Talking to this scribe Miss Zubaida Parveen, a local, said that they are very happy on completion of the water supply scheme.
Shamsurrehman Tajik said that this project was completed with at a cost of 15 million. He opined that had this project been completed by Public Health Department, or any other government department, the cost may have been triple, and the project may even not have been completed.
