Point To Ponder

AZRA NISAR

I found a family of birds searching for a safe tree to make a nest, I found some butterflies with an intricate design on their wings who were looking for a garden to reside in, I found a fish who was searching for some unsoiled water to survive in. And, I also found a group of ruthless people not letting any of them to get what they wanted.

Severn Cullis Suzuki made a thought-provoking speech in Rio Summit 1992 about the conservation of our ecosystem. She began her words with some striking sentences:

“ I am afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in our ozone, I am afraid to breath the air because I don’t know what chemicals are in it……we hear of animals and plants going extinct everyday vanishing forever in, in my life I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals jungles and rain forests full of birds and butterflies but now I wonder if they will even exists for my children to see”

Have we ever thought about what happens to the trash after we have thrown in? What does the smoke of industries do to our mother earth? What happens to the forests after we chop down the trees? Are we suffocating and burning our mother earth to ashes?

Our parents always want us to be honest, responsible, and good with everyone but are we really applying these core values in our lives? We may be honest to our friends in keeping their promises and secrets, we may be responsible in submitting our assignments before the deadline. However, are we really being honest with the one who deserves it? Are we showing our responsibility to the one who needs it from our side?

In clear words the one who truly requires and deserves our honesty, and responsibility is our mother earth. We all need to start with a small yet prolific step to grow all these values into a tree of pragmatism. We need to learn to protect our earth, begin with basics that include collecting trash, cleaning the streets, not polluting the water, and to take care of our gardens. We need to plant trees than cutting them, we need to protect the birds than killing them and we need to clean the water than polluting it. We all need to work to keep our mother land away from destruction which is indeed happening because of our lack of responsibility. We are losing the beautiful animals and variety of plants since we don’t care of them. Can we spare some minutes to plant trees, to clean the filthy water channels, and to use public transport than personal cars which is reason behind the global warming.

We all need to teach our kids to take care of their surroundings, to keep the water clean, and to save plants since these are primary needs of our earth. Let’s take incentives by ourselves than waiting for someone else to take a starting step. Let’s prove ourselves the real kids of mother earth.
