PIA planning additional flights to Skardu and Gilgit

Gilgit, July 4: Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority, Nadeem Ahmed, has said that opening of the Karakuram Highway is likely to take six weeks of work time. He said that the highway has been blocked or washed away at multiple locations.

On the other hand Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced that it will increase the number of daily flights to Gilgit and Skardu. Under the new plan three flights will be operated between Islamabad and Gilgit while two flights daily between Islamabad and Skardu. PIA has also been ordered to revise its ticketing policy and issue 15 tickets in each flight under the old system.

A court in Gilgit – Baltistan has asked a private airline, Shaheen Airline, to explain tot he judges why it has not yet started flight service to the region despite of court orders.

In a related incidents Skardu bound passengers turned violent at the Benazir Shaheed International Airport in Islamabad and smashed window panes protesting against alleged rude behavior of PIA staff. The passengers also chanted slogans against the PIA management for ‘not being supportive’.
