Diamer Jirga hands over two more suspects involved in torching of schools to LEAs
CHILAS: A Jirga (tribal council) in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan has handed over two more suspects to the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) for their alleged involvement in torching of schools in the region in August this year.
The two suspects, identified as Asmatullah, son of Zaafran, and Shabir son of Bakhmal, were handed over to officials of Pakistan Army, local sources have said.
The suspects will be interrogated by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), comprising officials from ISI, MI, Special Branch of GB Police, and other security agencies.
LEAs have tasked the Diamer Grand Jirga to identify and handover suspects to the government. Several high-ranking army officials, including FCNA Commander and Corps Commander, have in the past warned that if the suspects are not handed over, a search operation can be launched in the district.
Commander of 10 Core, Lt. General Bilal Akbar, had visited Chilas two weeks back.
So far, the Grand Jirga has handed over more than 4 dozen suspects to the LEAs.
