Support assured to declare Gulmit, Hussaini and Passu as hunting areas

Hunza, March 25: The Conservator Forest, Northern Areas Ghulam Tahir hGhulam Tahiras assured to extend departmental support in order to declare Gulmit, Hussaini and Passu as Community Control Hunting Areas (CCHA). He was speaking to a gathering in Gulmit organised by the Programme for Mountain Areas Conservation (PMAC) to mark the World Water Day. He stressed the need of  sustainable use of the natural resources and conservation of biodiversity.

Ghulam Muhammad, Divisional Forest Officer said that the Gojal community has taken the lead in conservation and stressed the need to continue efforts to ensure sustainable use of natural resources.

Sifatuddin, representative of Gojal Conservation and Development Association informed the participants about the achievements and challenges of the conservation committees.

A large number of notables, members of village conservation committees and school students from Passu, Hussaini, Ghulkin, Gulmit and Shishkat were present in the event. School students presented colourful programmes including skits, dramas, speeches and poetry related to the day’s theme. The speech competition was won by a student from Ghulkin while students from Passu and Gulmit secured second and third positions respectively.

The speakers appreciated the efforts of PMAC in conservation of Gojal region and demanded to further facilitate the process in the region.

PMAC is a programme of Ministry of environment, Government of Pakistan aimed at conservation of biodiversity in mountain areas of NWFP, AJK and Northern Areas.
