by Syeed ud din

As a leaf fell off the tree and touched the ground , the fragrance of love spread through    the city , it seemed to be some important day and of course it was the WORLD TEACHER  DAY; the day of giving rewards to those diligent and spirited men and women who rendered their life time for their students.

A program was held here at AKHSS gilgit on 5th Oct 2009 early in the morning. It started with singing of the school’s official song, which reads as …

“Aga khan higher secondary school … Aga khan higher secondary school

WE are proud of thee

our will is strong our aims are high

We will make u a place 4 the world to see”

The energetic comparing of Khayyam baig and Zia rocked the crowd. Such program becomes more attractive when celebrated with cream of Gilgit Baltistan’s students.

The spirited and highly talented students of AKHSS, belonging to all parts of Gilgit – Baltistan presented speeches, poetry and words of admiration and appreciation for their teachers.  Speaking on the occasion Hasnan Butt said,”Why God created teachers/ In His wisdom and His grace/ Was to help us learn to make our world/A better, wiser place”. And at other place he quoted Edward bulwark’s words “The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself” .

This was followed by a speech delivered by student Aman shah about importance of teachers, quoting poetical narrations of Allama Iqbal he also quoted words of different scholars like quotation of Karl malinger. “A teacher’s purpose is not to create can students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image.” Ghaznfar ali shah, a students, said”For teaching children lessons/ to help them as they grow/Let this gift remind you/You’re the best teacher we know.”

Teachers also expressed their feelings and ideas. Saif ud din Saif, a young poet and teacher of Chemistry, shared his ideas and explained in depth the background of Hazrat Ali’s quotation, “The one who taught me a single word made me his slave.’ Also sharing their teaching experiences on the occasion were Mr Sajad ,Sher, Altaf and Miss suriya, among others. A volunteer from Canada also participated in the event.
