Hunza Lake: Emergency declared in GB

PT Report

Gilgit, May 28: Constant increase in water level has reduced the free board at Hunza Lake to around 2.5 ft. The water is most likely going to start flowing through a narrow and unstable spillway during the next 24 hours. The government has declared emergency in Hunza – Nagar and Gilgit ordering closure of all traffic on the KKH.

Secretary Home has reportedly said that red flags can be waved by stranded people to seek help in case of any emergency.

Hundreds of people are still believed to be living in areas marked as red zones on the banks of Hunza River. This is despite of several requests, appeals and threats used by the GB administration and government.
