Gulmit, February 10: During the past two days a ferry raft operated by the Pakistan Army has evacuated around 300 stranded commuters out of Gulmit, headquarter of the Gojal Tehsil.
The action by Pakistan Army has been hailed by the local people. However, some have expressed concerns about ensuring safety of large number of people.
“The raft is inconvenient for transportation of patients”, Rehman told Pamir Times recently. “The government should instead ensure presence of doctors at the Tehsil Head Quarter Hospital”, he further said.
It is pertinent to note that all state institutions and NGOs have failed to provide doctors on permanent basis for the 25,000 people of Gojal Valley, despite of several protest demonstrations.
A couple of days back the GB Health Minister told the GBLA that soon a doctor will be sent to Gojal Valley but so far no action has been taken in this regard.
According to the Rabita Committee Mutasreen Gojal (RCMG) , at least 13 people, mostly children, have died in the Gojal Valley since blocked of the river last year, due to unavailability of health facilities.
