“Misinformed” security forces open fire on a car, “mistakenly” killing policeman in Darel Valley
DAREL/GILGIT: Security forces opened fire on a car in which five members of the elite Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) were traveling in the Darel Valley of District Diamer. The car was attacked by the security forces based on erroneous information shared by an ‘informer’.
One policeman, identified as Baseer Abbas, died at the spot receiving a bullet in his head. The four others raised their hands and said that they were policemen. By the time the security forces realized their mistake, Baseer had lost his life.
According to Darel based sources, the security forces in Darel received a tip-off from an informer about ‘armed terrorists’ traveling in a car with a certain color. The security officials erected a barricade and kept in waiting to apprehended the reported “terrorists”. When the car approached, the security officials saw a palinclothed armed man, and opened fire.
In another incident, a police official Syed Mulook Uddin was shot dead over a ‘personal enmity’, said a Chilas based reporter.
A large number of security personnel, including Pakistan Army, GB Scouts and GB Police officials, have been deployed in the Darel and Tangir Valley after terrorists torched over a dozen schools in the region.
