[Sports] Police beat Scouts in final of GB polo tourney
GILGIT, Nov 12: Gilgit police team defeated the strong and favourites of the spectators the Scouts squad in the final match of the traditional freestyle polo tournament played at the Aga Khan Shahi Polo ground. The tournament was organised as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The police team managed to score 7 goals against the six goals scored by the Scouts squad within the fixed time of one hour.
At the start there were six players in each team but later two players of the Scouts team were badly hurt and as a rule two players of the police had to come out of the ground and game was played between eight players.
The Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Wazir Baig was the chief guest on the occasion who gave away prizes and trophy to the winner and
runner up teams.
Speaking on the occasion he said that the present government was giving top priority to the promotion of sports in the region. He said the region would shortly have a minister for sports and culture who would wholeheartedly work for the promotion of games”.
Mr Baig said that it was the honour for the entire region and public that the chief minister was accompanying the president of the country in a foreign tour to Chine which reflects empowerment of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.He congratulated the winner of the tournament and announced Rs100,000 for the players of both teams and same amount for the polo association. – DAWN, Phtotos: Farman Karim
