Hunza – Detainees to be tried under 'ordinary courts', anti-terrorism cases annulled

Gilgit, Sep 14: Chief Minister has agreed to annul cases registered under anti-terrorism laws against the people allegedly involved in riots that hit Hunza after the heinous murder of two IDPs in Aliabad last month.
Talking to a delegation led by Wazir Baig, the CM said that the people will be tried in ordinary courts. He also expressed sadness over the tragedy that plagued the peaceful region into chaos.
The delegation comprised of many people, including MLA Mutabiat Shah and Muhammad Ali Akhtar, among others.
The CM also said that 20 million rupees will be released for the students of Gojal Valley, to cover their educational expenses.
It is pertinent to note that several social and political groups, specially Hunza Aman Committee had been making efforts to annul the anti-terrorism cases against ordinary citizens.
The anti-terrorism court in Gilgit has acquitted most of the people detained for ‘damaging government property’.
The decision is likely to be appreciated by the social circles. However, there are many who believe that no cases should have been registered against anyone. This, however, seems to be a naive demand because government property had been damaged on a massive scale.
