Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to spend busy day in Gilgit
Gilgit, April 14: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhamamd Nawaz Sharif is expected to land in Gilgit today at around 10am. He will spend a busy day, getting briefed about development projects, chairing the last meeting of the GB Council, meeting the caretaker cabinet, distributing laptops among students of the region’s only centre of higher learning, and holding meetings with party leaders.
The Prime Minister will also address a public gathering at the Lalak Jan Shaheed Ground located in Jutial.
PMLN leaders have said that the public gathering will be attended by tens of thousands of people.
Locals are hoping that the Prime Minister will break the past tradition of his party and announce a major shift in the region’s constitutional status to address the longstanding deprivations of the populace. Rumors have been making rounds in the Gilgit-Baltistan region that the PM wants to make GB a provisional province of Pakistan.
The Gilgit city administration has visibly overdone itself working during the past two days to clean the roads and perform repair works pending for months. The Prime Minister’s visit, if nothing else, has led to cleaning to the city’s otherwise dirty roads.
