Shama Khalid becomes the first ever female governor in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Mar 23 (APP): Dr Shama Khalid on Tuesday took oath as Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan, becoming the first woman assuming governorship in the country’s history. The chief judge Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan administered oath to Dr Shama Khalid at a special investiture ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, witnessed by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdii Shah and federal ministers.
President Zardari had appointed Dr Shama Khalid as the Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday.
Dr Shama Khalid is a leading social worker who voluntarily worked in different parts of Gilgit-Baltistan by establishing free summer medical camps every year.
Let’s remind the readers that Dr. Shama Khalid is a daughter of Gilgit – Baltistan. She belongs to Astore district and is sister of Wazir Tajwar, the executive engineer of NAPWD.
After a long period we had given provincial setup we finally got rid of a Non-Local governor of Gilgit Baltistan as Dr Shama khalid sworn in not only as the governor of the region but also the first woman governor in the history of pakistan.
this act of the govt will encourage the woman’s role in the political arena of the country especially the women of Gilgit Baltistan, a backward area of the country.
lets hope for a betterment with a new experience of a lady executive in the region.

It is indeed a great news to have the first Lady governor from the soil of Gilgit-Baltistan. We must congratulate the govt and Dr. Shama on this occassion. But the real test of the governorship will be seen in how much power is given to to the office of governorship and how she exercise her power in the best interest of Gilgit-Baltistan and off course in the interest of Pakistan as well.

Congrats madam for holding the supreme office of the ninth wonder.She is first ever governer in the history of the world who is governer but not having a province to govern.After the KKH it is the ninth wonder of not patronised by the constitution of the country but having governer and cheif minister.Its that part of the country whch is given status but not authority and postion to take part directly in the political affairs of the country.The leader of the country are aware of the psyche of our so called leaders having lust for status and self exposure due to their shortsightedness,so the are dealt accordinly.

congrats for Dr Shama Khalid for holding most powerful authority of the country that is Governer.the title indeed is very attractive but the most important thing is constitutional power not the title.so lets see how much this attractive title holds power.but it is evident that like chief minister the governer is also power less because they don’t have any representation in national assembly and federal minister for kashmir affairs is superior then them who is non local….so it is useless to be so jubilient……….
Congratulations to Dr. Shama for being on the forefront of leadership in Gilgit-Baltistan. I hope she will make her level best efforts to bring a just and merit based society in GB.

With reference to the above mentioned comments,it is stated that Mr. Aafiyat Nazar is right that first woman governor in the History of Pakistan was Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan,while Dr.Shama Khalid has the honor to become the first Governor as well as the first woman Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan. She derserves to get this position. I wholeheartedly congratulate her for achieving such exalted position.Her appointment will enhance the prstige and image oif not only G-B but the entire pakistan
This reminds me the services rendered by her late father Wazir Mohammad Ashraf who was the first B.A.L.L.B (Alig) from the entire Gilgit-Baltistan. He was a great scholar and wrote many books on the history and scenic beauty of each and every part of Gilgit-Baltistan. His writings introduced the area to the outside world. This scribe has worked closely with the late Ashraf sahib when he acted as Principal of Govt. College,Gilgit( presently KIU). I was then a junior Lecturer in Economics. He was instrumental in bringing out the first College Magazine by the name of “KOHSAR”.

It is really a good news for the people fo Gilgit-baltistan to have a female governer .But we should know that Ms Shama Khalid belongs to punjab because she has got married in Punjab.And the most important thing is not the title of governership but the powers a governer should have.This is very strange that this country has five governers but four provinces. Isn’t it the ninth wonder of the world. whole the nation need to realize this fact rather to become fool.
I congratulate none but the women of GB who will at least learn something (??????????) out of this game.
This time, the poison is given through a mild and a sensitive hand by the establishment!!!!!
I laugh when I imagine the (bloody empowerment package) which supports nothing except the direct taxes.

When dramas are written, there always be characters to continue the scenes (heros, heroins, villans etc?? to entertain the audience.
Establishment is the audience (alongwith the unawared people of GB) to enjoy this ‘DRAMA’ (at least for now)
but I promise that this drama will cost heavily in the long run.
It is obviously another milestone towards the self governance for the GB people who had been survived under oppression and deprivation in the Colonial system since 1948. it has been a matter of fact that none of the gov had considered any political reforms for the people of GB. now the current Gov is trying to give autonomy to the local people which is of course appreciable. it should be also kept in mind that this ORDINANCE is not alternate for the constitutional rights…Regards
