Press Release

ISLAMABAD: Three climbers, Simone Moro, Denis Urubko and Cory Richards successfully reached the summit of Gasherbrum II on 2nd February 2011 at 11:35 am.

The achievement is being seen as a historic milestone in the mountaineering history of Pakistan, being the first winter ascent of any peak above 8000 metres present in the country.

It may be mentioned that Pakistan’s 8000 metere and above high peaks were being attempted without success since 1987. This success bespeaks of the dogged determination, strength, mountaineering and survival skills, and above all the comradeship of these mountaineers.
