Gilgit-Baltistan day celebrated at SZABIST
ISLAMABAD– Students belonging to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) expressed their determination that they will utilise all their potential and energies for the promotion of national harmony, cohesion and development of Pakistan.
The commitment came during a ceremony held to mark the 64th Independence Day of Gilgit-Baltistan held at the Islamabad campus of SZABIST.
The colourful event was aimed at sharing the moment of joy with the students belonging to GB, a home to diversified culture and ethnic groups. Sharing their sentiments, more than two-dozen students of the region said Pakistan today is in need of national unity and the young generation can play an extremely vital role in this regard. They said that the youngsters of GB have great quest for education and knowledge and if given ample opportunities to excel they can make Pakistan proud in the comity of nations.
SZABIST Director Syed Asad Hussain sharing his personal experience on the occasion said it was heartening for him to see rising interest and awareness towards education especially at the primary level. He said GB is not only rich in terms of human resource, but also tourism attraction, but both the resources in his views are not being tapped as effectively as these should have been.
It may be recalled that the people of Gilgat- Baltistan got freedom from the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir on November 1, 1947 through their own resources, they established a new state of their own, Raja Shah Rais Khan became the president while Mirza Hassan Khan the Commander-in-Chief of the Gilgit scouts.
