Astori youth laid to rest in native village, student from Yasin valley succumbs to injuries in Gilgit hospital

Gilgit, April 4: A young man shot by miscreants in Gilgit the other day was laid to rest in his native village in presence of thousands of people. His body was brought to Astore from Gilgit today.

Meanwhile, 15 year old Amjad, a student of Aga Khan Higher Secondary School hailing from Barkolti – Yasen, lost the battle for life at a local hospital. He had reportedly been hit in the head by a stray bullet on April 3. He was brought to a hospital with severe injuries where doctors tried to save him for two days, but to no avail.

Victims of the Chilas Killings

Four of the nine victims of killings in Chilas have been identified. According to media reports one of the victims belongs to Astore, one to Hunza Valley and two are from different parts of Baltistan. Five victims have yet to be identified. Closure of cellular networks and the imposition of curfew has made it difficult for family members to identify their relatives or reach the people who are still stranded.

Two bodies were shifted to Skardu in a helicopter today, according to media reports.

  1. So sad to hear all these. All the leaders and youth are requested to please, be calm, think critically and act towards peace building . I know its a very hard time for GB still do not allow peace to go away from our beloved peaceful area. May God guide every human being to respect other human beings (Ameen).

  3. Very sad situation, all the people of Gilgit-Baltistan need to think with cool mind about the different situations happened in GB since 1947. Historically, the local people of GB are not terrorists but there is the policy of DIVIDE & RULE. This is the time for the people of unlawful region (GB) to be united and point out the elements who are involved to create the tensions in GB.
    We need to strongly demand for the “Self Rule”.
