[PT Election Cell] Candidates start dirty money distribution game in Gojal valley

PT Report

Gulmit, November 8: The practice of using village organizations and village women organizations for buying votes has again started in Gojal valley three days ahead of polling. Pamir Times has learnt that two different candidates gave around 100, 000 rupees to a village women organization in Gulmit, to buy votes of the members.

According to details a candidate gave around seventy thousand rupees to the women organization while another gave up to forty thousand rupees to them, also promising more money after winning the election.

Similar tactics have also been used in the past by different candidates to buy votes.

  1. this type of unethical things do MQM because they have lot of experience to do illegal things. mostly areas they cast vote force of gun. so this is very very bed habit……..

  2. Indeed it is an unethical practice to buy the loyalties of people through an organization which is meant for other purposes. Here I won’t blame the politicians only, but the office bearers of the said women organization as well. Instead of rising democratic awareness among its member they are influencing them to commit an unscrupulous act. WOs never stands for selling votes in order to increase the members’ savings or making more and more money rather they are there to play their due role in promoting a sustainable democratic culture as per the wishes of His Highness the Aga Khan. If the WO office bearers are really interested in increasing their savings or profits there are other options laying forth. I believe that they have enough savings and reserves that they could have transformed themselves into a private bank by now, but due to their capacity problem they are looking for shortcuts. It is really a shameful practice to accept bribe from corrupt and conscienceless politicians. I think we all should raise voice against such practice; discourage them and influence our institutional leadership to handle such cases on council level, particularly this one. This practice may benefit their members for now, but harm the entire society in a long term. Please stop bringing bad name to our civil society organizations-Please stop it.

  7. It is extremely shamful act to project thier existance by donating ransom for the community based organizations particularly in time of elections by the candidates of various political parties. We all should resist this by refusing such bribes at any cost. This shamful act had been initiated by Mir family in the past

  8. I hope the educated people will decide better. The situation is different now people can better think and decide.

  9. It is really a moment of shame for all of us. This particular Women Organization is doing it again as had reportedly done it during the last elections.

Can somebody from Gulmit check out what is happening in the village, is this organization which was primarily formed for the local women to deposit their hard earned savings made from their limited resources only to learn how to make savings.

To my opinion, it seems there is a serious financial indiscipline going on in these Tanzeems besides absence of any democratic culture of holding elections and change of management. This particular Tanzeem had made some very controversial financial deals in the past like purchase of piece of land, investment in the Sost Dry port, accepting bribe/donation from corrupt politicians and involvement in politics by influencing the innocent members in favour of those who have given donations and this time once again the same stories are now appearing on this blog which is read by a variety of people around the world.

I would suggest a thorough and immediate audit to safeguard the interests of the poor members of the Tanzeem.

This, in my opinion is gross violation of the mandate entrusted upon the management of these Tanzeems. Can the authorities in the AKRSP, local elders, council, or whoever controlling these Tanzeems come forward and find the fact. The President and those involved should be removed immediately otherwise the savings of the poor women would be in jeopardy and more importantly, Gulmit will be disgraced before the whole world for the deeds of those few who may have vested interest or loyalties for in some personalities or families.

I personally feel very disgraced and dejected when I read and listen to such misuse of the name of Gulmit, my beloved hometown.
